The Bus turnaround, Cheddar Gorge, Carolyn Lamb 15th and 16th May 2019 . Oil. 12" x 12". The tree bottom centre is in the layby where the open topped bus tour turns around. This was the second of 3 paintings I did of Cheddar Gorge in May. I am sitting opposite the gorge resevoir.

 The arrows mark the direction of all the oil paintings I have done in the gorge so far. | The first picture I started is of the shops under Lion rock (not finished yet). My plan is to eventually paint every view in the gorge. However when it comes to naming things it is really hard to work out what you are painting. Cheddar Gorge Climbs by Martin Crocker is invaluable, but even with that it is hard to work out. Most of the individual outcrops are named as a climbing route. But I am often unclear about the names of the numerous overhead peaks which appear . |
