BAth Society of Artists Open 2017

This week I was pleased to have an oil accepted for the Bath Society of Artists Annual Open exhibition. I'm just back from tonight's  private view at the Victoria Art Gallery Bath. The exhibition runs from 20th May until the 15th of July and my picture is number 212.
I called these garden ornaments 'Toadstools', but have since learned their proper name is staddle stones and their original use was to raise hayricks and barns off the ground to keep them dry and the rats out.

Framing up for BS9 Art trail 2017

Picture
Busy framing up a canvas for my exhibit at the BS9 Art trail. The view is Porthcawl from Ogmore Beach, Wales which I painted in 2016. Frame rebates are often too shallow to fit canvases so I am having to add wood strips to the back of the frame to make it deep enough.

Just under 4 weeks to go until my exhibit at the BS9 Art trail so I am framing up paintings.
I will be at Venue 6 :   Oatley Hall, St Monica's, Cote Lane , off Westbury Rd, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol BS9 3UN. I'll be on my stall from 11-5pm on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June 2017.  See the trail map here  www.bs9arts.co.uk/map-2017/4581497966
I like to paint on a small scale and last year I managed to fit 27 in. There are over 30 new ones in this photo so I have to chose which to frame.  Come and see me at Venue 6 and the results!

LIMESTONE Cliffs at Henbury Gorge

Picture
Fallen beech at Henbury Gorge, Bristol. C. Lamb. May 2017. Oil . 8" x8".
I have been asked previously why I spend so much time painting at Cheddar Gorge when there is the lovely Henbury Gorge here in Bristol on the Blaise Castle Estate. The walk through the gorge is lovely and there are many beautiful trees but the cliffs are mostly obscured by straggly tall trees on both sides. I managed to climb above the path and find a gap where a beech tree had fallen to catch a brief view of limestone outcrops for this oil.
