![]() The Wishing Tree, Clifton Downs. C Lamb. 10 July 20. Pitt felt pens. People have hung ribbons and hearts and special messages to this Hawthorn tree on the Downs, a lovely big open space. But had to ask people to keep 2 m social distance twice as they couldn't resist approaching to see what I was drawing. I was lucky to get a free place on the Royal West of England Academy Zoom workshop run by Catherine Knight. The topic was Finnish Summer landscapes. First week we copied a landscape from a selection of Finnish artists. . I have always loved this oil by Gallen-Kalleila since first seeing it in the National Gallery, London. They bought it in 1999. Second week we did an oil from our own images. I had painted Findhorn Bay in November (outdoors at 5.C) but still had images of amazing sunsets I wanted to paint. I don't paint from photos normally but we are still in lockdown.
