REd Castle at Lunan BAy

Picture
Red Castle in Lunan Bay , near Montrose. Carolyn Lamb 27th & 28th August 2018. Oil. This bay between Montrose and Arbroath has been on my 'to paint' list for years. You spot the 15th century Red Castle on its hump perched beside the fantastic sand dunes and long sandy beach as you whiz past on the train. That gives the best view of the castle as closer up the ruins look odd, - more like an animal sitting down than a castle. Although that was the view I thought I would paint, it is still on my 'to do' list . This time I went a bit closer onto the dunes.

Picture
Weir on the River Frome , Frenchay. Carolyn Lamb. 13th August 2018. 20 x 20cm. Out this week with Stuart and Jane, painting along the banks of the River Frome. This is the first time I have been painting on the Oldbury Court estate. We are following in the footsteps of the 19th century Bristol School of Artists who often painted along the Frome around Snuff Mills .

Willow Field, Holt Farm. Carolyn Lamb. 2018 Oil. 20x20cm. The hot summer has meant the garden flowers at Holt Farm have suffered, but I was able to find a subject in the field of willow saplings. This picture was done over 3 days - 9th, 10th and 16th August..

Picture
SS Great Britain car park. Carolyn Lamb. Oil. 2018. Earlier this month I was painting the Macarthur warehouse down Bristol Docks. Not much has changed to its derelict state in the 2 years since I last painted it. More ivy and a wooden hoarding around the bottom. The flag is from the SS Great Britain.

Picture
Garden House with Sunflowers. Carolyn Lamb. 30th & 31st July 2018. 12" x 12". Oil. Flowers, vegetables and raspberries flank the path to the summerhouse Tim built. He calls it the collection centre as it stores hundreds of books and there is also a small studio on the left side. Hazel always grows an abundance of flowers so there is never a shortage of interesting subjects in their garden.
