Joined my friend Paula for 5 days while she was installing the American Icon exhibition at Musee Granet, Aix en Provence. Thought I would be doing lots of painting of Cezanne sites while she was working, but when I stepped off the plane at Marseille it was a heatwave of 38.C (100.4.F).  Far too hot to sit outside for most of the day.  Small sketches were done early or late inside cool churches, cafes, under trees and in air conditioned museums.  I only managed one of Mont Sainte Victoire.

So many great spots to paint like the produce market but it was too hot.

Middle of the day was spent inside air conditioned museums trying to keep cool rather than sketching.  As well as Museums and Cezanne sites in Aix we did a trip to Arles to see the Cafe Van Gogh , Fondation Vincent and Espace Van Gogh (the old hospital he went to after he cut off his ear.)

It got slightly cooler (33.C) on the last afternoon as a strong wind suddenly blew up while I was sketching at Cezannes family house, ripping the hanging by Francois de Asis, who is this years artist in residence at the Cezanne properties .
