.Finally got round to painting the falling down Grade II listed Victorian Pier at Weston-Super -Mare, designed by legendary pier builder Eugenius Birch and opened in 1867. It joins the mainland to Birkbeck Island. Closed to the public in 1994 due to safety concerns, after years of attempts to get it repaired and restored it has been purchased by North Somerset Council from developers on Thursday 13 July 2023 and restoration work is planned to take place over several years with funding from the council, the National Lottery the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Historic England. It is so attractive to artists like me in its dilapidated state, so I hope the restoration will not end like the Weston Grand Pier that burned down in 2008 and is rebuilt in a modern style, and more like the attractive restoration of Clevedon Pier. Piers and light houses along the North Smerset coast have been subjects this year
